Environment & quality

Pli is committed to continuous improvement in quality and environmental management systems. We operate an in-house quality control and monitoring policy in line with industry best practice.

Pli is a member of the Furniture Industry Research Association (FIRA) where our products are tested in line with British and European standards for safety and durability. We give preference in competitive tenders to manufacturing partners which are ISO 9001 certified.

Environment

We also use FIRA’s Footprinter software to calculate the CO2 footprint of our products and to benchmark them with industry norms. Pli has developed a life-cycle analysis tool during the design process which helps us to consider a spectrum of environmental impacts from the very beginning of the product development phase.

Pli seeks to work with designers who can demonstrate a depth of experience in sustainable product design and manufacturers which already have environmental management systems in place. Where we use timber, all wood used in our products is FSC or PEFC certified. In fact, our bamboo supplier also holds FSC certification. We give preference in competitive tenders to manufacturing partners which are ISO 14001 certified.

Sustainable design isn’t only about using traditional materials and processes more efficiently. Pli is rethinking the entire lifecycle design of our products and we offer a full-service take-back, refurbishment and recycling scheme for our customers.

In October 2009, Pli joined the 10:10 campaign and we are working towards reducing our CO2 footprint as a business during 2010.
